Truck Shop Refrigeration Technician
Job Summary of Truck Shop Refrigeration Technician:
Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on transport refrigeration units (TRU) following original equipment manufacturer (OEM) procedures. Maintain and repair refrigeration trailer components including interior walls, floors, doors, and accessories. Operate and diagnose TRUs in various modes, using technical manuals and diagnostic tools. Maintain tractor climate control and communication systems, ensuring operational efficiency and safety.
Job Duties and Responsibilities of Truck Shop Refrigeration Technician:
- Perform preventive maintenance and repair of transport refrigeration units, including electrical systems, refrigeration systems, and tractor climate control.
- Maintain and repair trailers covering electrical wiring, lighting, landing gear, interior panels, roofing, tires, doors, and threshold plates.
- Conduct preventive maintenance on tractor-trailer braking systems following established protocols.
- Install, dismount, repair, and balance tires using specialized equipment and perform advanced axle alignments.
- Manage fuel drops and conduct fuel sampling to ensure safety compliance and proper documentation.
- Identify and perform warrantable repairs, accurately documenting work and processing warranty claims.
- Assess maintenance and repair needs for all Walmart equipment including tractors, trailers, road trucks, and shop equipment.
- Assist other technicians and comply with company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Complete work assignments efficiently by prioritizing tasks, collaborating with team members, and communicating progress.
Qualifications and Experience of Truck Shop Refrigeration Technician:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in trailer refrigeration maintenance and repair.
- EPA Section 608 Refrigerant Handling Certification.
- Valid state-issued driver’s license.
- Brake inspection qualification per FMCSA Section 396.25 regulations.
- Vehicle inspection qualification per FMCSA Section 396.19 regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and Department of Transportation (DOT) certification.
- Experience maintaining tractors and trailers, including preventative maintenance and repairs.
- Thermo King Master Tech, Carrier Master Tech, or equivalent certification.
- Proficiency with computer applications such as email, spreadsheets, and word processing.
- ASE Certification.

Salary:
The hourly wage range for this position is $35.45 to $38.95, with potential additional compensation through premiums based on work conditions. The actual rate will meet or exceed applicable minimum wage requirements.
